Answering Your Adoption Questions
As a parent who has adopted two children, Mitchell Katine knows the obstacles faced by families like yours. He is also on the advisory board for Family to Family Adoptions, a local organization that seeks "to broaden access to adoption for those who wish to expand their family through adoption without regard to religion, income or lifestyle." We use our personal and professional experiences when helping you navigate the difficulties you will encounter during a traditional adoption, second-parent adoption or same-sex parent adoption.
GLBT Break-Up Issues
There are specific issues that GLBT couples going through a break-up must address to successfully end their relationships. These issues are unique to the GLBT community because of the lack of recognition of their relationships in Texas. We will assist you in dealing with these issues in a favorable and professional manner.
While GLBT couples still face uphill battles in gaining the same legal rights as heterosexual couples enjoy, strides have been made. Prior to the monumental U.S. Supreme Court decision of Lawrence v. Texas, holding Texas sodomy laws unconstitutional, spouses could use sodomy convictions against each other in divorce or custody disputes. Now that sodomy laws are unconstitutional, GLBT partners do not have to worry about how their private, consensual sexual conduct with another adult could affect their rights in a divorce or custody matter.
We speak often on a number of issues affecting our clients and community, participate in many activities that benefit the community, and have prepared publications on these issues.
